Rules of Use
The following rules govern the use of the UCLUG mailing list. Please read them carefully:
  • Utica College, UCLUG, its members, administrators, and contributors, will not be held responsible for any hardware, software, or personal damages resulting from the execution or use of information obtained via the UCLUG list serve.

  • Subscribers and contributors to the UCLUG mailing list will know and accept that any requested support is limited to the knowledge and abilities of other UCLUG subscribers and contributors.

  • Each user of UCLUG takes sole responsibility for his or her actions, including any damages that may result from those actions.

  • Any subscriber or contributor to the UCLUG mailing list who knowingly contributes information which an administrator believes to be intentionally misguiding, malicious, offensive, or illegal will be immediately and permanently banned from the UCLUG mailing list.

  • Any subscriber or contributor to the UCLUG mailing list who uses the list to harass, provoke, or harm any other individual or group in any way will be immediately and permanently banned from the UCLUG mailing list.

  • Any subscriber or contributor to the UCLUG mailing list who uses the list to have others answer questions or solve problems for that individual's assigned material or homework for a class in a way that constitutes cheating will, at the discretion of a UCLUG administrator, be warned via a public message to the UCLUG mailing list, or be banned from the UCLUG mailing list.


Content Filtering
The following content rules are automatically applied to each message by the mailing list server:
  • All messages to the UCLUG mailing list should be sent in plain text format and without attachments.

  • Any e-mail sent in HTML format (text/html content type) will automatically be converted to plain text (text/plain content type).

  • Any audio or video attachments will be deleted from messages sent to the UCLUG mailing list.

  • Attachments with the following file extensions will automatically be deleted from messages sent to the UCLUG mailing list:
    • .exe
    • .bat
    • .cmd
    • .com
    • .pif
    • .scr
    • .vbs
    • .cpl


Posting Guidelines
Please observe the following guidelines when posting to the UCLUG mailing list:
  • If you are asking for assistance with a problem, include as much information as possible, such as the exact operating system, computer specifications, error messages, etc.

  • NEVER give out a password when posting to the UCLUG mailing list.

  • When replying to a message on UCLUG, start your reply BELOW the original message. Many e-mail clients start above the original message when composing a reply, but in a mailing list this is referred to as "top-posting" and is not considered proper.

  • Always send replies back to the mailing list, not the original author of the message.

  • Do not send a reply to the original author directly unless asked to do so.

Using the Mailing List
  • To post to this list, send your email to uclug@lists.utica.edu

  • General information about the mailing list is at http://lists.utica.edu/mailman/listinfo.cgi/uclug

  • If you ever want to unsubscribe or change your options visit your subscription page (http://lists.utica.edu/mailman/options.cgi/uclug/<your e-mail address>)

  • You can also make such adjustments via e-mail. Send a message to uclug-request@lists.utica.edu with the word "help" in the subject or body (don't include the quotes), and you will get back a message with instructions.

  • You must know your password to change your options (including changing the password, itself) or to unsubscribe.

  • Normally, Mailman will remind you of your lists.utica.edu mailing list passwords once every month, although you can disable this if you prefer. This reminder will also include instructions on how to unsubscribe or change your account options. There is also a button on your options page that will email your current password to you.
